As we plan and prepare for the year ahead, we are also taking the opportunity to look back on our achievements in 2018. It was an exceptional year of growth for the team at 4Pillars. It was a year of big changes, big projects and big wins for our clients.

We would like to first thank our clients, suppliers and partners for their ongoing business and support. We are very excited about helping you achieve your environmental management goals in 2019 and beyond!

New staff & new offices

The 4Pillars team has expanded to accommodate the demands of a growing client base. We released a series of articles earlier in the year to introduce you to some of the new faces – follow this link if you have not yet become acquainted!

If you have been following us on our socials, you will know that we said ‘farewell’ to our Pyrmont office in May and said ‘hello’ to our more spacious and central North Strathfield office. With our additional remote office in Wollongong, we are even better placed to efficiently service clients from Newcastle to the Australian Capital Territory.

The team worked hard throughout the year to deliver positive outcomes across several challenging projects for clients in mining, waste and recycling, demolition and construction. We also recognise it is important to play hard, and made sure to take time out for team events, including, trivia, bowling, rock climbing, footgolf and local escape rooms! We also squeezed in the occasional game of lunchtime pool or table tennis in the office!

At 4Pillars, our people are our business and our strong team relationships result in efficiency and better outcomes for our clients. tweet

Overview of project work

2018 was a huge year for 4Pillars, with projects delivered across the Sydney Metro, Blue Mountains and Southern Highlands districts. These projects were often completed ahead of tight deadlines and under budget – all the while never compromising on quality. Some of our highlights from the year were:

  • Remediating and validating heavy metal, hydrocarbon and asbestos contaminated sites across Sydney, making them safe for residential development and occupation;
  • Completing several site contamination investigations, helping inform our clients and regulators about contamination risk;
  • Completing numerous waste classifications, helping ensure the safe and efficient disposal of hundreds of thousands of tonnes of material;
  • Assessing the impacts of several proposed developments on biodiversity, heritage and community amenity; and
  • Helping several clients with regulatory issues get their projects back on track – with co-benefits for the environment and their business.

2018 saw 4Pillars expanding our client base and working with a broad range of businesses, in different industries and of different sizes. Some of our key new clients include Lendlease, Brickworks, Aussie Skips, Benedict Industries, Alto Group, Cardno, Civil Transport, Qambone Quarries, Statewide Civil, KLF Holdings and Twynam Agricultural Group.

We also grew the number of clients taking up our EnviroNow package. EnviroNow is a unique and innovative package of environmental services, available only through 4Pillars. It is designed to holistically and simply manage your environmental risks and opportunities for a low cost.  you can read more about the inclusions here.

Exposure and interest in our innovative EnviroNow offering continues to grow. We look forward to launching an entry-level option of this package, suitable for small businesses, in 2019. tweet

Industry events and professional development

We believe that attending industry events, conferences, and prioritising professional development transfers value to our clients. They can be confident they are getting expert, current and practical advice.

The 4Pillars team attended many events over the past 12 months, including the Small Mines Safety Roadshow, the Australasian Waste and Recycling Expo (AWRE) and several professional development evenings focused on environmental law, planning and economics.

In addition, all staff are members of the Environmental Institute of Australia and New Zealand (EIANZ). Our Director, James, is Secretary of the NSW Division and successfully ran their annual general meeting in August, which featured a keynote from the Hon. Rob Stokes MP. It was also a pleasure to sponsor and attend the annual EIANZ conference, this year hosted in Darling Harbour. Speakers with backgrounds in business, advocacy, indigenous traditional knowledge, communications, science, environmental law and planning informed us of trends in transport, waste, digital disruption, regulatory reform, impact assessment and stakeholder communications.

The exciting year ahead

We thank our clients and network again for your outstanding support. We look forward to continuing to deliver exceptional service, products and advice. Together we will make the future more sustainable, profitable and equitable!
