Hey there! I’m Hugo Floyd, a graduate environmental consultant at 4Pillars.
My responsibilities at 4Pillars so far have involved environmental compliance database creation, helping industry fulfil their environmental obligations. I’m excited to see what the future holds at 4Pillars!
Working at 4Pillars has been one of the most enjoyable work experiences I have had. James and the rest of the team have created a relaxed and supportive environment that is a pleasure to be a part of it. When I’m working in the office, it’s great to see ideas being thrown around, with input from everyone always being appreciated.
I am currently finalising a Bachelor of Science at UNSW, majoring in Earth Sciences. My first love is geology, and I am most interested in the geochemical processes that affect humans, such as acid mine drainage. I am currently completing my thesis in this area and, since people tend to think geology is all about the long-gone past, I am keen to show that understanding geology and its processes is actually key to securing a safe and clean future!
I have always held a deep appreciation for our environment, my parents taking me on bushwalks every second weekend when I was young. I think being amidst unspoilt nature is truly one of life’s simple pleasures, and I always try to get out of the city to the bush whenever I can. I want to make sure that everyone can experience the beauty and serenity, even our great-great-great-great etc. grandkids, so protecting our environment from harm is a personal goal of mine. As a kid, I thought protecting the environment might involve getting paid to walk around in the bush, looking out for anyone doing something wrong. I still haven’t found that job yet, if you see one let me know! However, it is an honour to work at 4Pillars where everyone shares this passion and goal.
For a bit more about me, I love listening to podcasts, and some of my favourites for a laugh are Comedy Bang! Bang!, and How Did This Get Made?, though recently I have been listening to the much more educational History of Rome. If you’re not already listening to them then I couldn’t recommend them enough.
If I’m not out and about going for a bushwalk or at the beach, I’m a bit of a nerd so I love playing Dungeons & Dragons with my friends and watching horrible old movies.
